The Cap in Trade is NOT About the Planet, Just Money and Power
When bottled water was coming into fashion, people at the time wondered what would they try and sell us next – air? Well, that time has come in the form of the Waxman – Market Cap and Trade bill, also known as HR 2454, the American Clean Energy, and Securities Act or ACES.
The greatest and worst thing about a scam is that it usually sounds compelling. It hits us as possible because it contains a modicum of truth. The best win us over, and we wake up one day thinking how could we have been so foolish. Let’s not do that with the latest government scam to take money from our pockets and distribute it to Washington and Big Business (that newbie corporatist alliance forming before our very eyes) in the form of Cap and Trade.
A carbon footprint is unavoidable for 6 billion people to eradicate. Even if we were all gone tomorrow, our businesses, households and collections of this and that would remain, most likely, for centuries. The majority of people are aware that the Earth is more polluted today then in, let’s say, Biblical times. Profit and feeding and creating an income for everyone had to have an effect. Reducing pollution and becoming more energy efficient are noble goals, unfortunately HR2454 is not going to accomplish any of that – at all!
Scientists, who didn’t participate in the Global Warming Scam, such as Climatologist Chip Knappenberger applied standard climate models in order to project the benefits of the Cap and Trade initiative. He came up with a net lowering of global temperatures (resulting from the Cap and Trade initiative) to be between .01 and .02 degrees (at best) by 2100. That is, at the most optimistic, a negligible change. So, if it will not impact the environment in any significant way, why would Washington continue to thrust the Cap and Trade on the American public?
The reason is very evident once you start to examine the Bill: It will generate a lot of money for Washington (in the form of an Energy Tax) and new revenue for Corporate/Big Business (in the form of a new and lucrative Carbon permit market). However, neither Washington nor Big Business intend to pay a penny for Cap and Trade. The consumer will be forced to take care of that bill. You see, the companies capping and trading will simply pass the cost incurred onto you in the form of rate hikes. Manufacturers will add their additional, energy related costs to the the price of – EVERYTHING. Another little advantage of the bill is that it will give the government the right to control you even further. They will be allowed to go so far as to prevent you from selling your house unless it meets their standards in energy efficiency!
The whole point of the Cap and Trade is to increase the cost of electricity and gas so that we will use less. Theoretically speaking if prices are higher we will cut back on consumption, but we will also be forced to cut back on spending. Such, will result in less production, which in turn will mean less jobs. The Congressional Budget Office admitted that very scenario in a footnote of the Bill stating, “The resource cost does not indicate the potential decrease in gross domestic product (GDP) that could result from the Cap.” But they still cling to the Cap and Trade Bill in Washington because they think they can be seen as taxing polluters. Because of this bill, they will create a new and scarce commodity – the right to emit carbon – but they are also mandating that business buy carbon, which is contradictory at best and actually smacks of a criminal act. Big Business will either buy some and trade most or just move their production efforts to countries where they don’t have to deal with the Cap and Trade and export it back to us.
The Cap and Trade is a mechanism that places caps on carbon needed by power producing entities. They can exceed the cap by buying or trading the caps not used by other power, producing entities. The projected cost of all this is $161 billion dollars in 2020 which translates to $1870 for a family of four in extra energy related costs and taxes – per year. As more of the bills restrictions on consumption come into effect, the projected cost rises to $6800 for a family of 4 per year by 2035. No, we can’t switch that quickly from carbon – most experts agree that it would take nearly 50 years. In the mean time however, Washington would accumulate a tidy stipend, and they are salivating already at the mere prospect.
The Cap and Trade bill already passed the house in 2009. Every major study, by a who’s who of diverse groups, suggests that in will produce extreme job and income losses, but have little effect on diminishing carbon emissions. We already have a model of it’s ineffectiveness in Europe where a similar bill was enacted in 1997. Yet, it keeps on going because the incentive to the greedy in Washington is immense. Even though there are alternatives like tax breaks coupled with the usage and development of non carbon emitting energy sources – we continue on this dead end path. The reason seems obvious, those alternatives would not put money in the government’s coffers.
So again it has to occur to you, is this government serving the citizens or self serving at the expense of the citizens? The answer, given the unmistakable facts, is the latter. We cannot allow this to happen. We must show our protest and continue to show our protest until this bill is defeated. This is an unmitigated act of thuggery and bully-ism perpetuated by the very people we elected. It has to stop and has to stop now!

Great article!
This whole Cap and Trade scam smacks of socialism or even a new form of communism.
When the government can control the means of production and at the same time the people, through economic shenanigans in the name of the environment, you know it’s the Washington liberal socialists behind it.
Good share, great article, very usefull for us…thanks.
Excellent read, I just passed this onto a colleague who was doing a little research on that. And he actually bought me lunch because I found it for him smile. So let me rephrase that: Thanks for lunch!

Who would have known about this.
I don’t typically agree with the comments that are shown on sites but in this case I agree.
There are certainly a lot of details like that to take into consideration. That’s a great point to bring up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where the most important thing will be.
